Part 2. Related Technologies

Since SOAP was introduced, two other important specifications have been released. I am sure that others will follow. If this book has any success, future editions will contain discussions of those new specifications. Chapter 5 discusses the Web Services Description Language (WSDL). The WSDL v1.1 specification allows developers to describe Web services and their offerings using XML. Chapter 6 covers Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI). UDDI allows providers of Web services to advertise their services to people and organizations that use those services. Chapter 7 closes this part of the book with an overview of some of the more popular SOAP toolkits.
