Part 1. SOAP—Everything You Need To Know

In this part of the book, we take a look at the various technologies you need to understand to use the Simple Object Access Protocol, or SOAP, in its “raw” form. We start with a condensed history of computing technology to see what SOAP gives us in added flexibility with distributed computing. An XML primer follows. The XML chapter explains the XML technologies used by SOAP. The next chapter covers the SOAP v1.1 specification and explains the document in detail. We close the section with a C++-based implementation of a SOAP library. The implementation seeks to demonstrate how simple it can be to implement a SOAP parser.
