In chapter 8, we discussed the idea of security as a service. In the working example we showed you there, we explicitly routed messages via the security service. Explicit routing is not always possible. First, you may not have access to the source code of the service and service consumer to add the routing logic. Even when you do have access to the source code, you may not want to add routing code into each endpoint, as it can lead to maintenance problems when you need to switch security service locations or introduce load balancing between multiple security service instances.
