An IEEE protocol for network access control, used in WEP and supplied by RADIUS authentication

An IEEE protocol for network link aggregation

AAC (advanced audio codec)

An ISO MPEG standard for audio compression

access file

A text file named qtaccess used by QuickTime Streaming Server to authorize access to media by folder, similar to htaccess files used by the Apache web server

ACE (access control entry)

An entry within an access control list that controls access rights. See ACL.

ACL (access control list)

A system-maintained listing that either allows or denies access permissions to resources on the system by users and groups

Active Directory

Microsoft's proprietary directory and authentication service. It exposes an LDAP interface that Open Directory uses for interoperability.

address

A number used to uniquely identify a computer on a network, a block of data on a disk, or a memory location

administrator

A user with server or directory domain management privileges. In Mac OS X, also a member of the admin group and wheel group and therefore able to sudo as root.

AFP (Apple Filing Protocol)

A file-sharing protocol used to share files and network services. Modern AFP services operate over TCP/IP.
