Probably the most difficult layout changes were to be made at 1024 pixels wide. According to our requirements, this was the point at which advertising would need to be displayed in the sidebar. The advertising block had a fixed width, so around 600 pixels of the rest of the viewport was reserved for the main content.

With our typesetting, the measure was optimal around 600 pixels, so the content area had to be fully filled with the article for optimal legibility. However, it also meant that the navigation would have to be moved from the left sidebar to the top above the article.

But because the navigation was pretty extensive, displaying it completely would make the page look crowded, ...
