Mini-bar barrier lifted

Three- and four-star hotel rooms are routinely equipped with mini-bars containing a selection of beers, wines and spirits. Research has indicated that customers undervalue the convenience of having a drink an arm’s length away. Mini-bars are seen as expensive and this discourages guests from patronizing them. The Art Hotel, Kielbasnicza 20, Wroclaw in Poland has a strategy to alter perceptions. In this hotel, the room rate includes the price of the first drink from the mini-bar. Guests discover the convenience value by savouring this first drink and the barrier to taking subsequent paid-for drinks is broken.
