Driving the deal

While as CEO you know that outsourcing-driven change will ultimately involve removing people from the business, the immediate need at the start of the process is that these same people should come back to you with facts and figures on the performance of internal units. Inevitably, some will feel like turkeys voting for Christmas. To counteract this, the exercise should be portrayed as an investigation requested by the board, and not corporate policy – yet. And it should be stressed that it is a thorough investigation to which all managers are expected to contribute, and that it will investigate all options, including any changes and improvements that the business could implement itself.
