31 Assume You’re Live
When the system goes down—and it will—assume you are still “live.” Just because you cannot see what is going on does not mean that other participants at other sites cannot. Do not even trust your own technicians to be able to tell.
The system can fool people in many ways. They think their microphones are turned off because they have been told the system is down, or that they are experiencing “system trouble.” They turn their heads to make what they think is an off-camera remark to a colleague. The remark is off-color, derogatory, or spills information that should not be shared. Everyone else can hear it.
