Ubiquitous computing user experience design is a young field. Despite twenty years of history, there is little agreed-upon process, few standard components, and barely any agreement on where the boundaries of ubicomp lie — or even what to call it. Most designers will have to make it up on the fly and hope for the best. Nevertheless, not all is chaos. The seeds of a discipline have been planted, and some of the forest’s outline has emerged.
