The way you think can have a profound effect on your emotional and physical well-being. Each time you think a negative thought about yourself, your body reacts as if it were in the throes of a tension-filled situation. The reverse is also true: if you see good things about yourself, you are more likely to feel good. Eliminate absolute words such as always, never, gotta, should, and must from your vocabulary and your innermost thoughts. These are the telltale marks of self-defeating thoughts.2

Positive thinking doesn’t mean that you stick your head in the sand and ignore life’s unpleasant side. It means that you approach the unpleasantness in a more positive and productive way.
