Discovering Do’s and Don’ts

Each product comes with a number of precautionary warnings you should pay attention to. Usually, they’re common-sense measures, like “Don’t let students climb the interactive whiteboard.” I won’t list all the manufacturer’s precautionary measures here, but you should always read and follow warnings of this nature.

However, I do want to draw your attention to a number of items the manufacturer points out in the documentation. If you don’t have access to the manual or if you haven’t received any training, I recommend that you take a few minutes to read the following do’s and don’ts before you start using your interactive whiteboard:

check.png Don’t look directly into the light beam, and advise your audience not to do the same. Face the interactive whiteboard straight on when you write over a projected image. When you finish, step to the side before you face your audience. Advise your audience to do the same.

check.png Don’t touch the projector, and advise your audience not to touch it either. The projector can get very hot. You may see a speck on the board and assume it’s dust on the projector, and before you know it, your fingers are on the hot surface. Use a dust cloth to clean it to manufacturer’s specifications.
