Configuring Your Computer Settings

After all your hardware is connected, I recommend that you configure a number of computer settings that will ensure the best possible performance by your interactive whiteboard. Most of these changes can be found in the Control Panel on a PC or in System Preferences on a Mac:

check.png Power settings: Change your computer’s power settings so that the monitor is turned off after one hour if there is no use and the system is put in standby mode after two hours if there is no use (see Figure 2-4). You don’t want the computer to shut down during a class or meeting. You can do the same for the projector, but you’ll need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions; projectors vary.

check.png Resolution settings: You may need to match the resolution on your computer to the resolution on the projector if your interactive whiteboard screen shimmers or appears distorted.

Start by checking the default resolution on the projector. You can find the resolution-setting instructions for the projector on the menu of the projector and in the projector’s instructions.

Next, go to the Control Panel (PC) or System Preferences (Mac) and adjust your monitor’s resolution. Set the initial refresh rate at 60 Hz and adjust up until you find the ideal setting. You may need to adjust both to get ...
