Tiles

There are five different tile examples you can customize. You’re probably familiar with games where you flip over a card and find the answer underneath or where you matched pictures. SMART Notebook software re-creates these games, enabling you to use them any way you need.

This kind of activity can be especially useful in training sessions. For example, if you’re training a group in emergency-response procedures, you can set up this activity by having the group identify the order of a procedure. Write the procedure on top of the tile and the step number behind the tile.

Teachers use the tiles in many ways. For example, you can list states or countries on top with the capital cities behind the tiles (see Figure 16-3). The beauty in this activity is the simplicity. All you have to do is ask the question, and then when someone answers, touch the tile, and the answer is revealed.

A good ice breaker and a great way to learn everyone’s name is to list pictures of participants and their names. Everyone can try to learn the name of the group. Give out a prize for the winner.

Here’s how to set up tiles in your presentation:

1. Open SMART Notebook.

2. Press the Gallery tab, select Lesson Activity Toolkit, and select Examples.

3. Select Activities.

In the lower half of the tab, you should see Notebook files and Pages (23).

4. Expand Activities and scroll down until you see Tiles.
