Exploring SMART Notebook Files

A SMART Notebook file, which has a .notebook file extension, is similar to other files you’re used to working with, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, and OpenDocs files. Each .notebook file is comprised of a series of pages and can be saved in a number of different formats and exported.

However, the difference between the applications you’re familiar with and .notebook files is that within each file, you can create groups of related pages with different objects and properties, adding a dimension to your pages unique to this software. These groups of pages are known as — drumroll, please — groups. Groups are useful if you have many pages in your file. (Chapter 7 covers grouping pages in greater detail.)
