Customizing Pages

To create more interesting and captivating pages you have lots of editing tools at your disposal. By default, when you create a new page, it appears in boring white. In this section, I show you how to make the pages more interesting, professional looking, or just plain fun.

tip.eps Keep in mind your presentation goals when you’re creating your page. The possibilities are endless, but using too much razzmatazz can be counterproductive.

Working with page backgrounds and themes

SMART Notebook allows you to customize your pages using various colors, patterns, pictures, or themes. Themes allow you to define a specific custom background for your pages in a .notebook file.

There are two ways you can apply and define the way the background appears in your pages: the Properties tab and the Gallery tab.

Using the Properties tab

The Properties tab enables you to add solid colors, gradients combining two colors, patterns, or pictures. Follow these steps to apply a background:

1. Choose FormatBackground.

The Properties tab opens showing Fill Effects options (see Figure 7-16). You also can access this tab by selecting a page and clicking the Properties tab (the icon looks like a color palette with some text and lines).

2. Select a fill style.

You have a number of options:
