What Do I Do When I Get a “Clean Filter” Warning?

Many projectors need their filters cleaned after a certain number of hours of use. Some projectors are programmed to remind you to clean the filter. If you don’t clean the filter, you run the risk of the device overheating, which will shorten the life span of the lamp and the projector.

When the “clean filter” warning comes on, follow these steps:

1. Call your information technology (IT) department to see if you can bribe someone who’s responsible for the equipment to clean it.

2. If you can’t get someone from IT to clean the filter for you, find the user’s guide for your specific interactive whiteboard system and/or projector and follow the instructions there.

There are dozens of projectors out there — SMART Technologies alone produces about half a dozen, each with its own cleaning requirements — so it’s impossible to give a quick, easy solution to cleaning in this book.

If you have a SMART projector (one that came with your interactive whiteboard), go to www.smarttech.com/support and search the knowledge base or browse through the product pages to find your system’s user’s guide. If your projector isn’t made by SMART, go to the manufacturer’s website for more info.

remember.eps You may need to orient the interactive whiteboard after you’ve cleaned the filters (see Chapter 3).
