Monitoring Group Dynamics

Group dynamics has to do with managing member interactions and encouraging behaviors that have a positive influence on group process. This involves using ground rules to encourage members to improve their group communication and interaction skills.

Using ground rules. The following are three examples of ground rules given in the previous chapter. For each, I give possible facilitator responses to “correct” the initial behavior that was in opposition to a specific ground rule. As the facilitator models behaviors that facilitate effective group process, members should begin to monitor themselves. As you read through this sample dialogue, consider how you would respond to each case.
