Clarifying Issues and Perspectives in Disagreements

Your role as a facilitator is to ask sufficient questions to ensure that group members understand the issues involved in the disagreement and the viewpoints expressed by other people.

You might say, for example:

Jennifer, you don’t want to move into the Asian Pacific market.

Alice, you do. Could you each state reasons for your belief?

With this restatement, you paraphrase and then move on to clarifying issues and areas of disagreement. Ask as many clarifying questions as are necessary to bring out all issues.
