Communication is a central focus of the facilitator role and as I stated at the beginning of this chapter, you cannot not communicate. As we leave this chapter, we are not leaving the topic of communication. What we say, how we communicate nonverbally, and how we react to the communication cues of others all influence our effectiveness as facilitators. We focus next on the task function: getting the job done or the purpose accomplished. In most business groups, this is of critical importance and the primary reason facilitators are brought in. Groups, left to their own devices, may deviate from the task. The facilitator is there to keep the group focused.
