Organic Rankine cycle (ORC) based waste heat/waste fuel recovery systems for small combined heat and power (CHP) applications

J. Larjola,     Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland

Abstract:

This chapter describes the principle of the organic rankine cycle (ORC), suitable heat sources, the benefits of ORC when compared to the water vapour process, the different ways to build an ORC, a historical review, some present day manufacturers and guidelines to estimate efficiency and specific price. ORC is a power plant process, where the working fluid is an organic fluid instead of water. It can be used to produce electricity and heat from various fuels and heat sources, such as biogas, waste heat, biomass, etc. The typical electric power ...
