Get a Helper!

Having an extra pair of hands with you on the job—even unskilled hands—can be exponentially helpful. Make it part of your estimate. Try to be insistent. If the client won’t spring for it, get one anyway. (Sigh.) I can’t tell you how many times I’ve paid crew costs out of my own pocket. But, at the end of the day, I can walk away from a job knowing I pulled out all the stops to make it good, even if they didn’t.
