New Pixels, Old Tricks

One area I have generally felt that even the smartest digital cameras tend to get fuzzy about is fluorescent white balance. (Now, this is in my experience. I have not used every camera out there. Some may produce perfect fluorescent assessments.) Personal preference here, but I just don’t like the by-rote response the camera gives when popped into fluorescent mode. To me, it tends to be a bit warmish, and somewhat sickly looking, at least out of the gate. True enough, you can play the numbers, and come out with something reasonable. No worries or debate there. With higher-end models, there is now a white balance adjustment grid, where you can push or pull your pic towards hues that appeal to your eye as normal. Or not. ...
