I would have never expected to have this book published without bright smile and bit hug from the co-author, Prof. Un-Chul Paek, who has suddenly passed away in May 3’rd 2011. As an inventor of fast optical fiber drawing process and dispersion shifted optical fiber, Prof. Paek contributed to change optical fiber from a laboratory specimen to an industrial necessity in the information era. In addition to technical achievement, he served as a source of professional inspiration and as a role model for generation of young students and researchers.
