37 MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE PMO

Project Management Offices (PMOs) help project managers deliver projects on time and more effectively. However, PMOs continue to be challenged about the value they provide. A 2012 study by ESI International showed that while 72 per cent of companies had PMOs, over the previous 12 months 57 per cent of project managers not managed directly by the PMO had challenged the value that their PMO offered them. The study reported that only 18 per cent of respondents felt that their PMO had reached the final level of maturity, so there is still some way to go in improving the way that the PMO works with project teams and demonstrates its value to the company more generally.
