A beautiful black-and-white image is a welcome respite to the eyes and mind in a world full of oversaturated and gaudy color. With the image stripped of distracting color, we are forced to see its tonality and composition as well as its inherent content.
Perhaps because of this, most digital camera manufacturers now offer a black-and-white mode. Even if your digital camera does not offer this option, you can easily use software to convert color RGB images into black and white. This chapter will explore black-and-white photography from the shooting point of view, as well as show you some very effective ways to convert your digital images into black and white using software.
