Don’t Shortcut the Hiring Process

“O.K., what’s the fifth rule?” I asked.

“It’s ‘Don’t Shortcut the Hiring Process’,” Charles replied. “That’s just wishful thinking.”

“Taking shortcuts or wishful thinking often happens when you’re just trying to fill a position as opposed to hiring someone to meet specific performance expectations.”

“What do you mean?”

“When you have specific results or performance expectations in mind, you’re looking for examples of like performance during the interview. In a sense, it forces you to probe deeper to ensure the candidate could really meet your expectations.
