Every time I write another book, there inevitably comes a time when I’m doing too much, and I morph into a hostile curmudgeon, a scrooge who snipes at the first target that presents itself, even if that target is just announcing that dinner is ready. Writing technical books is not as lucrative as it used to be, even successful books. Those who write do it out of love, and often at a cost to those around them. Maggie, Kayla, and Julia (the person, not the language), you’ve been that target too often. But you also inspire me and lift me when I’m low.
