I remember when development opened up for the iOS platform. I felt like I wasn’t quite ready to make the leap, first because I didn’t have an iPhone yet, and second because I didn’t have any experience with Objective-C. When Android was announced I felt a lot more comfortable jumping in because I already had experience with Java. It turns out it was silly to wait to delve into Objective-C, but I’m really glad I started out with Android.

Android began as bit of an “us too” platform. The iPhone looked better than any of the Android devices for a long time, the operating system looked better for even longer, and it was really easy to make ugly, poorly performing Android apps.
