I remember when I watched the announcement for the first iPhone, back in the day. I looked down at my Razr, which to me had been the pinnacle of technological coolness and now suddenly looked like a cheap toy, studded with inexplicable bumps and lines. Its screen now looked like a grocery-store credit-card machine, each huge, blocky pixel an abomination to behold. I would never be able to enjoy a game of Snake again.

The iPhone and iOS changed the game for mobile development. When the app store opened up for developers like us, even though things like app stores had already existed on other platforms, in most people’s minds app development started at year zero.
