RECEIVER AUDIO CIRCUITS

Unlike a traditional, terrestrial TV receiver, the audio circuits of a typical satellite receiver are rather complex. They are invariably stereo (although mono systems still exist, particularly in SMATV form), with the possibility of variable i.f. bandwidth and switchable de-emphasis time constants among others.

Having said this, the results are usually that the symptoms are much the same as traditional TV but you have much more circuitry to search through to find the cause. As we will see, much audio processing circuitry in older receivers is based around simple op amps and so much signal tracing in and out of ICs is the order of the day and later units, certainly in the mainstream, Astra market where designs are cost ...
