DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

As with terrestrial television, it becomes desirable to have signals from satellite in more than one room of a house. When one also considers the rather more conspicuous antennae, one appreciates the need to do this by splitting the signal one already has rather than planting dishes all over the place. Equally one might, on a larger scale, wish to distribute signals to a group of flats or apartments within a large building. The generic term for these systems is SMATV (Satellite Master Antennae Television Systems). Beyond this scale we are into cable TV systems which are beyond the scope of this book but which include many of the principles discussed in this chapter.
