A.2. MAINTAINER OF STANDARDS

We can see a pattern in the way SOA standards are formed and then maintained. In the beginning, a group of vendors get together and formulate a standard. For example, the Web Services Addressing standard was formed by IBM, BEA Systems, Microsoft, SAP AG, and Sun Microsystems.

Later, the standard can be passed on to a formal council. For example, OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) maintains a large number of Web Services standards. Some of the standards are also being maintained by W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).
