2.2. ELEMENTS OF THE SOA GOVERNANCE REFERENCE MODEL

The SOA Governance Reference Model is a layered model that we will explore working top-down, beginning with SOA governance strategy and goals. The SOA Governance Reference Model is depicted in Exhibit 2.1.

The SOA Governance Reference Model consists of layers that describe governance considerations that are essential to successful enterprise SOA governance. These layers can be grouped into four primary classes, which help in tailoring this Governance Reference Model to your organization's specific governance requirements:

  1. Governance Strategy and Policy Dimensions. What SOA strategy provides the backdrop and direction for SOA governance? What strategies and objectives are we governing to ensure that we achieve them? What resources, decisions or processes must be governed to support this strategy? What business, process, and technology policies are necessary based on the stated SOA strategy and governance philosophy?
