Consumption Adequacy

Introduction

This chapter focuses on the last of the four streams of thought that were identified in Chapter 1, namely, consumption adequacy.

While the other three schools of thought (described in more detail in the previous chapter) have a more overt focus on the academic concepts underpinning this book, this chapter will use theory as a framework to consider in more detail the specific context in which the impact of unsettled times is felt. We begin by discussing consumption adequacy within the context of the concept of the “bottom of the pyramid” (BoP).
