Traditionally, DR sites come in the following three flavors:
- A cold DR site means having a ready-to-go data center facility with little to no existing hardware and no ready-to-go application or data backups. When deploying services in the public cloud, this definition nearly loses meaning as there is always a ready-to-go data center facility where your application could be re-provisioned.
- A warm DR site has the required hardware and network already provisioned, albeit usually in smaller capacity than the production site. A warm DR site also has ready-to-go backups of the application and data, although the backups may be several days old.
