What is not covered by the SLA

When talking about a SLA, it is important to note that the SLA does not cover the following situations:

  • The SLA will not cover Disaster Recovery situations, meaning that the SLA does not apply in the case of a natural disaster, war, or a similar major event. We will discuss disaster recovery in more detail in the next section of this chapter.
  • The SLA will not cover application-level failure, meaning issues with the deployed code or deviations from the officially advised service configuration.
  • Lastly, and most importantly, the SLA will not cover integration between different system components.

The last point gives us a segue to the next topic.
