8. Selling On Your Own Website

If you’re fortunate and lots of people start buying your crafts online, you may decide you’re better off opening your own ecommerce website. It certainly sounds appealing; you’re your own boss, with no fees to pay to any third-party marketplace.

The grass, however, is not always greener. Creating and maintaining your own website takes a lot of time and, yes, money. While you may be able to generate more profit per sale (by not paying any marketplace fees), you also have expenses that you didn’t have on Etsy or eBay—as well as the necessity for promoting your site to attract potential customers.
