Chapter 12

Making Your Sales Coaching Sustainable

Imagine you’re a great singer. In fact, you’re so good you are one of the four Canadian Tenors. You get the call of a lifetime. You’ve just been asked to perform on The Oprah Show. You pinch yourself. You’re nervous but excited.

The day comes. You walk out on stage with your fellow Canadian Tenors, and everything seems to move in slow motion. You finally get to hug Oprah and sit down beside her.

Oprah starts the interview. You chat about working together, how you all met and chose your songs. You each take turns answering Oprah’s questions, except one question which you answer together. The question is, “Who’s your singing hero?” You all answer, “Celine Dion.”

The details of the rest of your conversation are hazy. You’re so excited to be on Oprah’s show. Yet you’re nervous because you still have to sing.

Oprah cuts to break. You and the other three Canadian Tenors get ready to sing when you come back from the commercial break. It’s time. You and your three melodious buddies start singing. It’s going great. The audience loves it. Oprah loves it. You’re all in the flow. You’re singing well. This is one of the highlights of your singing career. Life can’t get better than this.

Then, the crowd roars even louder.

You notice some of the audience members seem to be looking through you. You turn your head slightly and catch of glimpse of someone behind you. Your buddies haven’t noticed yet. It’s Celine Dion!

You can’t stop singing to tell ...
