Chapter 10. Monitoring Computers

A solid understanding of how to monitor computers in your organization is vital for both quickly troubleshooting problems and responding to problems before they become critical. For troubleshooting problems, monitoring allows you to gather detailed information about a computer’s state, such as the processor, memory, and disk utilization. Monitoring can also allow you to be proactive and identify warning signs that indicate an impending problem before the problem becomes serious.

This chapter describes three useful monitoring techniques: event monitoring, performance monitoring, and network monitoring.

Exam objectives in this chapter:

  • Configure event logs.

  • Configure performance monitoring.
