Chapter 4. Creating a DHCP Infrastructure

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) allows you to assign IP addresses, subnet masks, and other configuration information to client computers on a local network. When a DHCP server is available, computers that are configured to obtain an IP address automatically request and receive their IP configuration from that DHCP server upon starting.

This chapter introduces you to DHCP concepts as well as to the steps you need to take to deploy and configure a DHCP server on your network.

Exam objectives in this chapter:

  • Configure Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
