At a time when business managers are all into (or should be) root cause analysis, one starting point in gaining an understanding of the management challenge in today's technology-driven work environment is to reflect upon the overuse of the term revolution. Hyperbole has proven to be a contagious condition in every form of communication. We don't get weather reports; we get warnings. A 1 percent stock market movement is a major rally, and, in that same way, no one talks about trends, evolution, or changes in business. We note (with appropriate swelling background music) revolutions in technology, communications, competition, international trade, and every other noteworthy development.
