Chapter 2 provided details of securing communications on most layers of the OSI model except the Physical layer (layer 1). If an attack is launched against the signal on the wire, hackers might be able to copy information as it flows in the form of bits. This might not be as dangerous if an appropriate software encryption mechanism is employed in the transmission.
