Social Engineering

Understand the concept of social engineering.

The last attack that needs to be addressed can often be one of the easiest and most productive attacks of all. It is called social engineering, and it plays on human behavior and how we interact with one another. The attack oftentimes doesn't feel like an attack at all. Some scenarios of social engineering attacks are shown in the following list:

  • An administrator calls you at 4:55 p.m. and states that he's in real trouble. He's attempting to do a network backup operation, and it keeps failing.
