Secure FTP
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the standard protocol for exchanging and manipulating files over a TCP/IP network. Typically, an FTP client connects to an FTP server in order to send files, receive files, or manipulate files on that server. The only security provided is the optional use of a user ID and a password during the initialization of the FTP connection. All commands and data, including the user ID and password, are passed across the network in the clear, which is, of course, a security issue.
