Introduction

Authentication proxy is a part of the Cisco IOS Firewall suite and was introduced in Cisco IOS Software Firewall version 12.0.5.T and later. You use authentication proxy to authenticate users making inbound or outbound connections or both.

Authentication proxy allows users to authenticate to the network using a Web browser. Authentication can be performed using TACACS+ or RADIUS servers. Once the user is authenticated, the authentication server passes additional access list entries down to the router to allow users through after successful authentication.
