Implementing AAA Using Local Authentication

Configuring the router's local database is simple. At a minimum, you configure a username and password by using those commands and then tell the router to use the local database with AAA services.

After you perform this configuration, when a user attempts to establish a connection to the properly configured router, the router prompts the user for a username and password. When the user inputs his username and password, the router checks its local configuration to verify the identity credentials. As you can tell, there is no external AAA server involved in this transaction.
