Checking for accuracy

The final general drawing principle is to check your work for accuracy. As you work, your mind is processing and placing your drawings into patterns of perception. After a fairly short amount of time, you will no longer really see your work. You need ways to break that pattern of perception. It’s like proofreading something. You tend to miss the typos and other errors, but you can correct this by having someone else read it or by reading it aloud.

Many artists already use one or more techniques to check the accuracy of their art. These two pages are a summary of many of these techniques. I advise you to incorporate one or more of the following techniques into every work of art you do:

• Invert

• Distance

• Time

• Tools
