7: Approaching the inmost cave

Preparing for all challenges

We were all in agreement — or, at least it felt like it. We had participated in the first round of the Family Business Network Owners Program in April 2015, and it had gone very well. This took place just before the internal launch of Georg Sörman 100, and timing was perfect for the VIP Day in late April 2015, where we set a new sales record for the shop. The second module of the course was set for early September 2015, just a few weeks after my brother's wedding in Watsons Bay, Sydney. The dust had settled on our agreement to disagree and not proceed with the creative solution for the smaller Old Town shop (refer to chapter 6), and we felt like Gustaf's wedding had re-united the family spirit a bit. And so with four other families we entered the halls of Säby Säteri (an old converted horse-breeding estate) curious, yet a little bruised, and enthused, but a little scarred from recent events. Here was our last chance to make things right. We entered the reflective cave of Säby to gain strength, and our heroine retreated to make final preparations for the next phase of the implementation of Georg Sörman 100.

The last few weeks had been challenging. Along with our problems with the acting landlord for the Old Town store, the landlord at Kungsholmen had also thrown up some challenges. About eighteen months earlier, he had announced that, at an undisclosed time in the future, ...
