33. Logging and Auditing

One of the biggest issues with cloud computing, as discussed in an earlier chapter, is that you are never quite sure where your data is being stored. You have no idea whether the provider is replicating your data. You may have few assurances that they are actually securing your data on their network. You should be able to be confidently assured that your data is being safely handled. After all, even though you have subcontracted the storage to a third-party cloud provider, you should be able to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your data, because it’s still your data. You may outsource responsibility, but you cannot outsource accountability.
