Excluding a Project from Automatic Backup

At some point, you may have a project that you want to exclude from Scrivener’s automatic backup settings. Maybe it’s so large that it takes too long to back up. You really notice this lag when you’re backing up when closing the project and have several projects to shut down. A large project can also slow you down if you have Scrivener set so that it creates a backup when you manually save.

Other reasons include not wanting that file backed up to the same location or not wanting to back up the project at all if it’s something that you’ll delete right away (such as a practice project).

Whatever your reasons, you can exclude a project from the automated Scrivener backup easily. Just open the project you want to exclude, and then choose File⇒Back Up⇒Exclude from Automatic Backups.

Be sure to have another backup method in place so that you don’t lose your work.

To include a project in automatic backups again, simply remove the check mark from Exclude from Automatic Backups in the File⇒Backup submenu.
